Montcalm Collection’s flagship hotel, Montcalm Mayfair, is undergoing a two-year transformation and is scheduled to reopen in March 2025. The renovation blends historical preservation with forward-thinking design, marking a significant addition to London’s luxury hospitality scene.
Historical Restoration and Modern Enhancements
Award-winning architects Holland Harvey have restored the Georgian Grade II-listed façade, originally damaged during WWII and rebuilt in the 1970s. The redesign incorporates floor-to-ceiling glazing to maximise natural light while maintaining privacy. A new extension adds 15 guest rooms and suites, including the Botanical Suite with its private entrance. The design respects the area’s architectural heritage with features such as a traditional mansard roof.
Thoughtful Design and Creative Concept
Art and experience consultancy Culture A collaborated on the hotel’s creative concept, crafting a holistic narrative inspired by five historical figures linked to the neighbourhood. This storytelling approach informs the art, branding, and interiors, fostering a connection between the hotel’s design and its heritage.
Interior Design
Studio Est has reimagined the public spaces with a blend of Georgian charm and modern craftsmanship. Light-filled areas feature bespoke furniture in rich natural tones, incorporating materials such as oak, marble, and brass. The hotel bar, a standout feature, includes a curved fluted glass gantry and three marble arches referencing London’s iconic Marble Arch.
The subterranean spa, also designed by Studio Est, offers a tranquil escape with pastel tones and a bespoke soundscape inspired by British woodlands, created by MindFidelity.
Studio Mica has redesigned the 151 guest rooms with soothing tones and natural textures. Bespoke details include commissioned poetry woven into the wallpaper and personalised amenities reflecting the hotel’s historical inspirations.
Sustainability at the Core
Sustainability has been prioritised throughout the renovation, with enhanced energy and water efficiency and partnerships with social enterprises. The hotel aims to achieve B Corp and Green Key certifications.
