Fesdu Island, Maldives – Luxury resort W Maldives will reopen on 1 March 2025 following an extensive redesign aimed at redefining the island escape experience. Located in the North Ari Atoll, the resort has undergone a full-scale transformation, blending W Hotels’ signature vibrant style with the Maldives’ natural beauty.
Since its launch in 2006, W Maldives has been a pioneer in design-driven hospitality. The refurbishment integrates a bio-boho aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the surrounding marine life and island landscape. The resort’s 77 redesigned villas, both overwater and beachfront, incorporate sustainable materials and ocean-inspired accents to create a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience.
The accommodation includes Superior and Premier One-Bedroom Overwater Villas (149 sqm), featuring private decks and floor-to-ceiling windows, and Escape One-Bedroom Beach Villas (188 sqm), which offer outdoor bathrooms and mangrove-inspired designs. For larger groups, Supreme and Oasis Two-Bedroom Overwater Villas (323-492 sqm)and Oasis Two-Bedroom Beach Villas (376 sqm) provide expansive living spaces, private whirlpools, and even two-storey water slides leading directly into pools.
New Dining Concepts
The resort’s culinary offerings have been revitalised, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and global influences. FISH, the signature seafood restaurant, will introduce an “Ocean-to-Table” concept, sourcing line-caught seafood from local fishermen. SIP, inspired by Latin American cuisine, will serve bold dishes alongside signature cocktails. FIRE, the beachside smokehouse, will focus on wood-fired steaks and seafood, while WET Deck, the poolside venue, will debut a SplinterWorks-designed water slide, adding a playful touch to its Mykonos-inspired social scene.
Exclusive Experiences & Sustainability
The reopening will also bring a calendar of exclusive events, including Marriott Bonvoy Moments and the W Presentsmusic series. Water activities such as snorkelling, diving, and water sports will be available through the resort’s DOWN UNDER Dive Centre and WAVE Water Sports Centre. Guests seeking privacy can retreat to Gaathafushi Island, a private sanctuary for day visits or overnight stays.
Wellness and fitness offerings include the AWAY Spa, a TechnoGym-equipped fitness centre, and a new padel court launching in May 2025. Sustainability initiatives feature an in-house biogas plant, single-use plastic elimination, and plans for solar power installations.
With its bold new look and expanded experiences, W Maldives aims to set a new standard in luxury island escapes.
