Courtyard is considered to be one of the top independent designer clothing stores in the United Kingdom having won multiple awards including the Drapers Award for best womenswear boutique in the UK and recently the Southern Enterprise award for the best clothing store in the South East. But this is Award-winning style with a conscience
Established for over 25 years it is founded and owned by Julia Jaconelli who attributes her success down to focusing on finding collections ‘with exceptional fabrics and impeccable details’ as well as the best of the newest trends.
Julia says she is also very passionate about buying from companies who use ethical methods of production and who are actively finding ways of reducing their carbon footprint by no longer using harsh chemicals, reducing the amount of water used and recycling fabrics.
Some of the most popular brands include Mos Mosh, Rails, 360 sweater, Henry Christ, Kennel and Schmenger, DL1961 jeans, Delicate Love, Lune Active, Essentiel Antwerp, Riani and bags by Tissa Fonteneda and Campomaggi.

An ethos of sustainability
For the new season Julia is introducing the vegan brand Matt and Nat who are committed to not using animal-based materials in their bags and shoes. They are also using recycled materials such as nylon, cork and all their linings are made from recycled plastic bottles.
DL 1961 jeans use 98% of recycled water in their inhouse treatment plant for producing their garments. Most jeans take about 1500 gallons of water to produce but they use less than 10. They also take old jeans, shred them and weave them into new yarn to create their high performance denim whilst using dyes with no harmful by products.
Luneactive is another new collection for Courtyard. An athleisure brand made from organic, recycled materials and again using no harmful chemicals in their dying process. Athleisure clothing is perfect for the new modern woman who likes to look stylish but remain casual and comfortable in their day to day lives.
Other brands for next season include Le Tricot Perugia, Charlotte Sparre, Sita Murt, Inoa, Kinross, Luisa Cerano, Silk Five, Summery Copenhagen, My Sleeping Gypsy and Miss June,
