
The Lightbox Gallery in Woking is hosting a new exhibition titled The Lounge, created in collaboration with the National Trust’s Clandon Park and artist Harold Offeh. This immersive installation explores the theme of “home” through innovative artworks that connect the past and present.
The exhibition features bespoke wallpaper, seating, furniture, and film, all designed by Offeh alongside participants from The Orpheus Centre, the Amber community, and volunteers from both The Lightbox and Clandon Park. The installations draw on the histories and collections of Clandon Park and Woking’s Heritage Collection, inviting visitors to reflect on the idea of domestic spaces and belonging.

In conjunction with The Lounge, The Lightbox is hosting a series of interactive events in the coming months:
- The Lounge Tea Room (Saturday 23 November, 2-4 pm) – A hands-on workshop with Tara White focusing on blending herbal tisanes, exploring tea culture, and sharing generational stories. Visitors will design their tea blends and create recipe cards.
- Artist Talk with Harold Offeh (Thursday 28 November, 1-2 pm) – Offeh will discuss the research, design, and curatorial process behind The Lounge, offering insight into his artistic practice.
- Harold Offeh: In the Lounge (Thursday 28 November, 6.30-7 pm) – A performance and talk by Offeh, exploring the cultural and historical significance of domestic spaces such as lounges and living rooms.
- Described Tour (Thursday 5 December, 10.30 am-12.30 pm) – A special tour for visually impaired visitors, providing detailed descriptions of the installation’s themes and artworks.
- Bring and Brag: The Joyful Collection (Thursday 14 December, 1-3 pm) – Offeh and community members will share stories and memories connected to domestic objects from Woking’s Story and Clandon Park’s collections.
- Textile Time Machine (Saturday 18 January 2025, 11 am-4 pm) – A creative workshop led by the Campervan Collective, inviting participants of all ages to create a “time machine” using textiles, inspired by the works of H.G. Wells.
These events offer a unique opportunity to engage with art and history, explore the concept of home, and connect with the local community.
