Property professionals from across the region gathered for the 14th Surrey Property Awards’ ceremony and glittering black tie gala dinner on 30th November 2023 – with some lucky guests leaving with not just a much sought-after trophy, but also the knowledge that they had excelled in their respective category.
Heralded as the region’s most prestigious property event outside London, these awards differ from many others in that some of the categories are not judged, but voted for by the public and other industry professionals.
The evening was hosted by A-list guest speaker, TV personality and host of the shows ‘Pointless’ and ‘Have I Got News for You’, Alexander Armstrong, and compère for the evening, Sarah Gobran, actor and co-founder of the Guildford Shakespeare Company.
All the categories were highly contested, and in many cases the final count was incredibly close; so amid huge anticipation, the winners in each category were announced by Alexander before they walked the red carpet to collect their trophies from the Mayor of Guildford.
First up to collect a trophy for Property or Development of Outstanding Architectural Merit was Earlswood Homes. This category was judged by James Deverill, Michael Conoley Associates, Chair of RIBA Surrey, who described the winning entry as ‘not just excelling architecturally, but artistically combining unusual materials to elevate the overall appearance and deliver a property of enviable kerb-appeal’.
The next award was for the Best Professional Property Services Company/Consultancy and, having attracted many high level votes, the Company nominated as having provided exceptional levels of service was Adair.
Focussing on effective relationships that culminate in successful outcomes, the winner of the Commercial Agency/Chartered Surveying Company of the Year was Owen Isherwood.
Best Boutique Development seeks to identify a niche and creative new homes development, and the trophy went to Elivia Homes for Merston Manor.

Richard Flenley, Partner from the event’s headline sponsor, Charles Russell Speechlys, presented the award for ‘Best New Homes Development – 20 +’ to Cala Homes for St Peter’s Quarter
Moving on to the larger developments, the award for Best New Homes Development – 20 + Properties was presented by Richard Flenley, Partner from the event’s headline sponsor, Charles Russell Speechlys, to Cala Homes for the creatively designed St Peter’s Quarter.
The Estate/Letting Agency Branch of the Year trophy is awarded to a single branch office, meaning the size of the company is not relevant, and this year the trophy went to Charters in Farnham.
Next, reflecting its ability for design and architectural creativity for both corporate and private clients, the winner of the Architectural Practice of the Year was Morph Design Studio.

Jaspar Group collect their award for Opus Court – ‘Best Apartment Scheme – including Retirement Developments’
When considering apartments and retirement developments, buyers look for good design, convenient location and modern specification, and the trophy for Best Apartment Scheme – including Retirement Developments was collected by Jaspar Group for Opus Court.
Law firms play an integral role in the success of the property industry and this category was hotly contested, with a number of firms vying for top position, but the winning company for the Property Law Firm of the Year was Hart Brown.
And finally, personal commendation from clients and colleagues is the all-important factor in the highly acclaimed Property Professionals of the Year awards. This year, the two very special people who received the most nominations and some glowing endorsements were, Joanna Amis from Adair and Dan Redmond from Savills.
In addition to the awards presentation and gala dinner, a silent auction, with some amazing items, ran throughout the evening to raise funds for Challengers, a Guildford based charity that provides play and leisure for disabled children and young people.
