This year’s Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards highlighted the crème de la crème of luxury travel around the world, seeing Morocco and Greece rightfully featuring on the winner’s podium. Niamh Kealey reports...
Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco (pictured above), triumphed with the title of No. 1 Resort Hotel in North Africa and the Middle East. The resort belongs to Virgin Limited Edition, under Jon Brown as Managing Director. He spoke of the award: “It is such an honour for Kasbah Tamadot to be named No.1 … We were very fortunate to have won this prestigious award in 2017 and we are incredibly proud to be voted number one again in 2019”.
Situated in the spectacular Atlas Mountains, Morocco, the Kasbah Tamadot is owned by Sir Richard Branson, acquired during one of his famous ballooning expeditions. The 28 rooms are decorated to reflect the building’s beautiful architecture, featuring globally sourced antiques which contribute to its deserved recognition.
Jacqueline Gifford, Editor in chief of Travel + Leisure, said: “For 24 years, our readers have been voting in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards … I congratulate all of this year’s winners, who have worked so hard to be among the world’s best.”
Fly East to the Greek Cyclades to discover the honeymoon heaven-on-earth Canaves Oia, which passed the post in a bid to win two prestigious titles in the Awards.
The secret ingredient for this flourishing, boutique brand is its smallest and newest property, Canaves Oia Epitome. The small-scale 24 villa property has exceeded all expectations since opening in May last year. The dazzling property has paved its way to international acclaim, sweeping ‘Best Resort in Europe’ and ‘Best Resort in Greece’ in the Travel + Leisure awards.
Such ground-breaking accolades after mere months of being in business are regarded a hallmark of hospitality excellence. The five-star plunge pools, private alfresco dining options and overall value brings much to be celebrated. The positioning of the newcomer on Santorini is unbeatable, within walking distance to Oia’s Katharos Beach. Perched above the picturesque fishing town of Ammoudi, views comprise whitewashed buildings and cerulean blue sea. Infancy aside, Canaves is no stranger to attention, also reaching No.1 in Condé Nast Traveler’s ‘Top 30 Resorts in Europe’. Moreover it placed #34 in the category of ‘Top 100 Hotels and Resorts in the world’ – undoubtedly worth visiting.
The Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards are decided by the publication’s readers, who rate hotels, airlines, airports, locations and more in consideration of a variety of aspects. The Editor in Chief describes these awards as ‘a global collection of the top’ in these categories – making the awards a truly customer-based and commendable achievement.
