The Surrey Artists’ Open Studios event is now on and provides a rare chance to tour these creative workplaces

If the creative talent of Surrey is of particular interest (and there is a lot of it!) June offers a once-a-year opportunity to visit the homes of a wide range of artists across the county of Surrey as part of Surrey Artists’ Open Studios (which runs until 17th June). From painters to glass workers, ceramics specialists, printmakers and metalsmiths, you’ll be amazed at the talent tucked away. For details of the artists displaying, plus a very useful interactive map of where to find all the artists displaying work, and when their studios are open for viewing.

This will help you plan days out, many studios have created trails linking with other geographically close studios which are open on the same dates. Each participating studio will be able to give you a trail map and you can start anywhere along the route.

Surrey Artists’ Open Studios – following a trail of creativity

The trails show where linked Surrey Artists’ Open Studios are all open on the same dates but please note that individual studios are open on other days.

Many of our artists create artist-led trail maps that link several studios together – either because they are nearby or because they complement each other in style.

We featured pictures of some of the numerous artists who have their studios open for viewing in our summer edition, including sculpture, glass works, painters and designers in metal. But the variety is immense.. from jewellery creations through to huge, eye-catching work that would be an ideal centre piece for a garden.

Bespoke and beautiful

The event provides a rare opportunity to view such a selection of pieces and styles up close, plus of course there might be the opportunity to talk to the artists directly about their inspiration and influences which, if you decide to make a purchase, some genuine back story to the latest addition to your art collection. You may even commission some to create something individual to you.
